Laminate Flooring FAQs
Is laminate flooring waterproof?
Standard laminate is not waterproof, but many modern options are 'water-resistant' for up to 24-72 hours. This means spills won't damage the floor if cleaned up reasonably quickly.
How durable is laminate flooring?
Very durable. Laminate has a tough wear layer rated by AC (Abrasion Class). AC3 or AC4 ratings are incredibly resistant to scratches, dents, and fading, making them great for pets.
Does laminate look like real wood?
Modern high-quality laminate uses high-definition imaging and embossing techniques to mimic the texture and grain of real wood or stone, making it hard to tell the difference.
Can laminate be refinished?
No. Laminate is a synthetic product with a photo layer. You cannot sand or stain it. Damaged planks must be replaced.
Is laminate flooring loud?
It can be if installed without proper underlayment. We use premium acoustic underlayment to dampen sound and prevent the 'hollow' clicking noise.
Can I install laminate over tile?
Yes, as long as the tile is flat, level, and in good condition. Laminate is a floating floor, so it can go over many existing hard surfaces.
Is laminate better than vinyl?
Laminate is generally more scratch-resistant, while vinyl (LVP) is more water-resistant. Laminate feels more like wood, while vinyl is quieter and softer.
Does laminate flooring need to acclimate?
Yes, typically for 48 hours in the room where it will be installed to adjust to the temperature and humidity.
