Solid Hardwood Maintenance
Solid hardwood is a lifetime investment—literally. With proper care, these floors can last 100+ years. Maintenance is about protecting the finish and respecting the wood's natural movement.
The Daily Routine
Dirt is sandpaper. The more you walk on dirty floors, the faster the finish wears off.
Sweep/DustDaily to remove grit.
Clean MatsShake out entry mats weekly.
Pet NailsTrim regularly to prevent gouges.
The Power of Refinishing
Solid wood's superpower is its thickness. When scratches get deep or the color goes out of style, you can sand it raw and start over.
Water is the Enemy
Solid wood swells quickly with moisture. This causes "cupping" (edges raising up).
- Wipe spills instantly.
- Never wet mop. Damp only.
- Use trays under potted plants (clay pots sweat!).
